Periodic update

So Gemzar III with Zeloda has turned out to be a fairly decent week. I am amazed how the reduction of the oral med has changed my condition. No slime, can still eat solids fairly well. No mouth sores, not even the "bumples" that are usually on my gums. Constipation was manageable. Wednesday was still a "sag" day, spent most of it in my chair. Extreme fatigue with some abdominal cramping. Fortunately I have an anti-spasm med that I can use when my gut objects to all the attempts to keep things moving.

We missed the tournament games at DC, but both the men and women managed to win without our support--and they advance to the next round tomorrow. The high school winter musical opens tonight and we always attend that, so I am hoping that I have renewed energy the next couple of days.

We continue to ponder the move to the condo that is in our future. Thinking about what we have here that can fit over there is a painful process. Obviously, a great deal of our things will not make the trip. Parting with a life time's collection of "things" is painful, but necessary. The place has to feel like home a little, doesn't it? So the winnowing will go on for a few months.

  1. Bob and I have also talked about just 'what' would we take or toss when we downsize....it's a puzzle isn't it? Lucky for you, the move is just down the road so you can make a test run of things, a bit at a time, and yes your new condo will be lovely once we all help you create your new space... so winnowing away dear friend, we all have to face it at one time or another in our lives...we winnowed when we made the decision to leave New York State and move to Ohio...and then spent the next ten years saying to each other...where did we put ___? Did we sell it? Loose it? are we loosing our minds? Oh, that's right we sold it at our major sale, like the pioneers, dump the junk before packing the conestoga and heading west! See you soon and will bring warm weather with us, come hell or high water, Marion & Bob

  2. We have lived here for forty years as well, and I look around me and try to imagine where I would begin to downsize, trying to send a bit of my heart to you and Emily. I hope that going to the hs musical will do what musicals should do and that is to transport you to another world for a while. And I hope you laugh and get all those good laughter endorphins. (Be sure to notice our two grandchildren named Stork.)

  3. Keep? Toss? Give to a new home? When did I last use this? Will I need this? Where did this come from? I didn't know we still had that! What is this?

Sound familiar? We did that with our move and with my dad's move last fall as he downsized into a 1 bedroom patio home - 65 years of stuff. Hard decisions and I agree with Marion and Bob. You will ask yourself many times where something is and did you keep it etc.

When I found that some things were hard to give up and just not practical to keep, I took a photo of the item(s). That really helped to know that I would then keep the memory alive.

Glad your week has gone pretty well and the eating is going as well as it is. Just met someone on the job this week going through chemo and having a terrible time with mouth sores. She just started on the miracle mouthwash and hoping for improvement. I certainly thought of you.

Keep up the fight. Love the sharing. Hugs.
